PARK ENTRY
What are the Dog Park hours of operation?
The Dog Park is open from Dawn to Dusk. Members will be notified via email, our website, and our Facebook page about the Park being closed due to special events or flooding (see PARK MAINTENANCE section).
Who is welcome at the park?
You should have a valid membership or week pass, be over 12 years of age, have signed the hold harmless agreement, and have a current copy of your dog/s rabies vaccination certificate on file.
Why are children under the age of 12 not permitted in the park?
Safety and liability concerns dictate that no child under the age of 12 is permitted within the dog park. This is done for many different reasons, but the most important is for the protection of children and dogs alike. Not all dogs are child friendly, please don't put your child at risk. This rule is taken very seriously, and if you are found to be in violation, it could very well put the status of your membership in jeopardy.
Someone told me that they forgot their keyfob and wants me to let them in the park. Should I?
A working key fob is the only way of knowing that the person in question is bringing a dog in to the park that is vaccinated for rabies and that the owner has a signed hold harmless agreement on file. Do NOT let anyone else into the park without a working key fob. Letting that person into the park, you put yourself, your dog, and all of the other members at risk.
What if I know about a non-member using the park?
Remember that the dog park is a user driven park. If you know of a non-member using the park, please get as much information about the person as possible and send that to the Director of Operations (dpagldoo@gmail.com or 765-490-7509. If you know that a member is purposely allowing a non-member to use the park, get as much information about the member as possible. *Members who knowingly allow non-members and their dogs into the park will have their memberships terminated.*
MEMBERSHIP
Can I use a credit card to pay my membership dues?
Absolutely. If you want to pay for your membership with a credit card, you can do on the MEMBERSHIP page, OR you can use your credit card at Buckles Food Depot ; membership application information will still need to be mailed in to the Director of Operations to complete the application process.
I can no longer use my membership, or I'm moving and won't be using my membership anymore. Can I get a refund?
Unfortunately, refunds are not given, but you do have a couple of options.
1. You can transfer your membership to another existing dog park member.
2. You can donate the balance of your membership to the dog park scholarship fund.
You CANNOT resell your membership/fob through online or offline marketplaces. The membership was purchased and activated for you and your dog/s upon completing the requirements for membership (i.e. submission of all appropriate paperwork).
It cannot be resold, anyone found to be attempting to resell their membership will have the fob de-activated and be reported to the appropriate authorities.

Can I get more than one key fob?
Yes, the cost of an extra key fob is $10.00. When paying for your membership, select the option (Annual w/extra key fob) and the total cost will be $70.00. If you are already a member, and would like an extra key fob, you can purchase one on the MEMBERSHIP page for $10.
What happens if my key fob gets lost or stolen?
A new key fob can be purchased for $10. However, once the new key fob is issued, your old one will become invalid.
IN THE DOG PARK
Are small dogs allowed in the "Large Dog Areas" or large dogs in the "Small Dog Area"?
Generally, the Small Dog Area is reserved for small dogs who are not comfortable playing in a crowd of larger dogs. However, if the Small Area is not being used, members with large dogs may use it. For example, when introducing a dog to the park and the owner is unsure of their dog's reaction to other dogs, it is helpful for the dogs to acknowledge each other with a fence in between them - preference, however, should be to use the other two large dog areas first. Large dogs must leave if the Small Dog area if requested by a small dog owner.
When is a good time to bring my dog to the park?
High volume times tend to be late afternoon, early evening during the week and weekends (4:00-7:00 PM); also weekend mornings.
What happens if I am involved in an incident at the dog park?
You have many different courses of actions depending upon the severity of the incident. First, if the incident involves another member and/or their dog, please speak with that member and exchange information. Also, please fill out an INCIDENT REPORT and contact the Director of Operations. If there is a criminal act occurring, contact either Lafayette Parks Security or the Lafayette Police Department.

PARK MAINTENANCE
Why can't the Parks Department fill in the mud holes, plant shade trees, install agility equipment, or build a shelter in the park?
Shamrock Dog Park was built on a flood plain, and the Department of Natural Resources Division of Water has very strict laws about what can and cannot be done in the area. We are not allowed to bring soil or other filler onto the flood plain, or do anything that would affect or alter the flow of the river in any way. For this reason, you may find that at some very rainy days of the year Shamrock Dog Park is extremely muddy. Because of the laws that are in place to ensure the safety of our community, we cannot cover the mud with plastic or bricks, put gravel over the mud, or create a drainage system. You may even find that certain areas or all areas of the Dog Park have to be closed for anywhere from a couple of days to a few weeks because of flooding. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your support and understanding.
